For the very first backyard show at the Robot Rocket Residence, my cousin Jojo played a solo PQO set. He dropped an octave in his voice and changed the lyrics in one song to: “We could go to a party, and there will be dancing/ Or we could make some tapes and sound like Calvin Johnson.” That same day, we turned the KDVS billboard upright to use as a stage backdrop.
Well, the house came poetically full circle on July 3, with Calvin Johnson playing on the patio and a ceremonial march of the billboard down the street to the Goondocks. It was by far the best attended show we’ve ever had there, with Calvin in true un-mic’ed and silly-dancing form.
Here’s my favorite from his set, an a cappella Hive Dwellers song, “Get In”:

hey, i think i can see part of my arm!
before his set, i nervously asked Calvin if he’d be playing “Get In”. he said, “Yeah.”
it made my week.
This easier my favorite too! And I really hope you turn that story about fresno/KDVS?scratching into a station ID.
