Ema and Her Lady Parts

Pehrspace is a nonprofit art gallery/venue in Historic Filipinotown, just west of downtown L.A. It’s on the same DIY tour circuit as a lot of KDVS house shows, so it immediately felt familiar to me. Cookies and lemonade helped, too.

Ema and Her Lady Parts seem to be a new scene favorite, comprised of four ladies draped in sparkly tulle. Ema plays banjo and accordion, accompanied by Lindsay on the bass, Pauline (from Moses Campbell) on violin and glockenspiel, and Mary (from The Monolators) on the drums. They were delightful:

I tried to stick around for punk kids Heller Keller, but watching one of the singers put out a cigarette on the ground inside the gallery and then tell the audience “fuck all you guys” three times in five minutes was my limit. If that were my venue, I wouldn’t invite them to play again.

Sounds like a (mostly) fun show.

It’s a bummer to hear about the rather disrespectful band. They ought to know better. News about jerks travels fast on the internet.

Yeah, using curse words is so not punk.
